The Unitarian Universalist Congregation of Atlanta (UUCA) is a progressive
faith community of 700+ members, 300+ friends and 400+ children and youth. Its
overarching mission is to change lives of all ages by encouraging spiritual
journeys that combine personal growth with justice awareness and action.* * The Youth Coordinator a year round ¾ time (30 hours per week) position with an annual salary of $28,500. UUCA (Atlanta) is a Large I congregation in Geo Index 3 for UUA compensation guideline purposes. Professional expenses and benefits are included; moving expenses to be negotiated. This position will start June 1, 2008. The Youth Coordinator will attend weekly staff meetings and will work on Sunday mornings, with the balance of hours spent according to the needs of the youth program. * * |

*Position Description:* Under the supervision of the Director of Religious Education, the Youth Coordinator has the overall responsibility for managing and coordinating programs for middle school and high school youth, grades 6-12. Significant organizational skills are required in order to fully integrate youth into congregational projects and events, as well as interpersonal skills in order to coordinate planning with the youth, youth advisors, parents, ministry teams and staff. The Youth Coordinator works to ensure that a well-balanced program is maintained that includes opportunities for worship, community building, social action, learning, leadership development and congregational involvement.** |

*Responsibilities include:* 1. Plan and coordinate curriculum and programs with the youth, RE teachers, advisors, ministry teams and staff, as appropriate. 2. Recruit and train volunteers including: youth advisors, RE teaching teams, Class Leaders, Coming of Age program mentors and ministry teams. 3. Meet with the Director of Religious Education on a weekly basis for both planning and problem solving. Attend weekly staff meetings. Facilitate Youth/Adult Team meetings. 4. Coordinate and lead regular meetings with adults working with youth – advisors, teaching teams, COA mentors, and ministry teams. 5. Establish regular communication with youth and families through a regularly updated calendar, web site, UUCA newsletter and Cliffhanger, mailings, phone trees and other electronic communications vehicles and potential social networking sites. 6. Coordinate lock-ins, congregational cons, Mountain cons and MidSouth District events within the Safe Congregation policies of the congregation. 7. Work with ministers and DRE to coordinate worship services involving youth. 8. In conjunction with the Director of Religious Education, coordinate Junior and Senior High OWL (Our Whole Lives) sexuality education classes annually. 9. Communicate with Mid-South District and Cluster youth volunteers; attend trainings as they are offered. The Youth Coordinator should possess organizational and interpersonal skills, ability to deal with volunteers and the congregation in a friendly and professional manner, and knowledge of office equipment operation and computer capabilities. Previous experience working in youth ministry is strongly preferred. Ability to self-motivate and manage multiple projects is crucial. Candidate must be sympathetic to the Principles and Sources of Unitarian Universalism (see http://www.uua/prg/visitors/6798.shmtl). Being a Unitarian Universalist is preferable but not required. |
