Leadership Development Committee

Proposed Revision 02/25/06
To review every other year

Leadership Development Committee
(formerly Nominating Committee, Bylaw revision pending)

The Leadership Development Committee is comprised of three members. The purpose of the Leadership Development Committee is to oversee the general development of Mid-South District lay leadership, to nominate candidates for board positions, and to provide recommendations for other leadership vacancies. The purpose is accomplished by fostering effective leadership development, recruiting and supporting potential and current lay leaders, and recommending training opportunities.

At Mid-South District Annual Meeting, one (1) member is elected for 2 year term and one (1) is elected for 1 year term. (The third member is carry-over from prior year.) The Chair of the committee (often the committee member serving the second year of a term) is designated at the time of the election.

Members of the committee accept the duties assigned in the Mid-South District Bylaws and hold in trust the mission and vision of the district.

The Chairperson shall be responsible for convening meetings of the committee and/or establishing other methods of communication with members and providing leadership for the committee as it carries out its charge.

The Leadership Development Committee is charged to:

  • Present at least one nomination for each office to be filled by election at the next Annual Meeting. Nominees must be submitted to Secretary at least 35 days before convening the Annual Meeting.
  • Be knowledgeable about current district Board members and committee chairs and their terms of service and, where appropriate, their interest in continuing district work.
  • Together with the district office and leadership, create, maintain and update a database of potential district leaders, noting their particular talents, skills, experience and interests. This database will be used as a reference for identifying leaders for district positions as they are needed.
  • Assist the Executive Board and District Executive throughout the year in filling committee positions by suggesting names of people appropriate for the tasks needed and considering diversity of location, gender, and congregation affiliation.
  • Recommend replacements for Board and Leadership Development Committee vacancies that may occur during the year.

Typical Timeline for Leadership Development work:
