Camp McDowell, Nauvoo, AL (NW of Birmingham)

For many years the Mid-South District has held a convocation for the presidents of their congregations. As we move toward truly regional programming, this year both Mid-South and the Southwestern Conference will gather their presidents in two locations connected via technology.

Both groups will gather for mutual support, networking and empowerment. We will learn from and teach each other, using Building the Beloved Community as our text. Books will be provided.

We will gather from Friday evening through Sunday noon. Make plans to be there!

The GA Mountains UU Church was founded in 1993 and in 1997 moved into its current building—corner of South Park Street and Morrison Moore Parkway. The building was originally a church and then a business before becoming their sanctuary. They are seeking a grant to help make their sanctuary safe and more energy efficient so their bills will be more affordable by replacing the broken single pane windows. This will also help them move forward in their Green Sanctuary application.

Your Chalice Lighter contribution of $10 (or more!) will be a gift to support growth at Georgia Mountains UU Church as well as the overall growth of Unitarian Universalism in Mid-South District and across the country. Read the complete call letter (along with a thank you letter from our previous Chalice Lighter recipient, First Existentialist Congregation of Atlanta)

Please give generously!

Chalice Lighter donations may be mailed to (checks payable to MSD-UUA):

This summer Mid-South District has important leadership transitions — and it even changes its contact information! (See new info below.)

As of July 1, 2011 Mid-South District has a new staff team – led by Connie Goodbread and Rev. Fred Hammond. Connie is the acting District Executive and Fred is the acting Program Consultant.

“Since 1997 it has been my pleasure and my challenge to be Mid-South’s District Executive,” says Eunice Benton. “No position I have ever held has brought more rewarding work! But now it is time to step back to open doors for next leaders and new achievements.”

Connie and Fred join skilled and seasoned leaders on the Mid-South Board of Trustees and in other key positions. And all are part of the extended Southern Region of the UUA, affording all our Unitarian Universalist congregations even finer access to a broad range of expertise and wisdom.

“To the very finest staff anyone could have – especially Sharon Walls as our Mid-South Administrator these last six years and Mitzi Stafford who has kept our books in fine order – I am deeply grateful!” Eunice notes.

“I leave Mid-South in great hands – yours!” is Eunice’s parting line. Connie, Fred, and a fine team of Mid-South leaders – ready to serve and bring on new ideas – are ready to do just that!
